A butterfly knife sometimes referred to as a folding knife, is a type of knife that has its blade hinged so it can be opened with one hand. Many have multiple blades that are deployed from the handle during use.  They may also have serrations on the inside of the blade's edge for cutting ropes or other textiles. Butterfly knives are like guns in your hand when you draw them out. This is not similar to regular knives. "Shooting" is used for this type of knife, referred to as CQC (Close Quarters Combat) which means you can fight close by. The term butterfly knife was coined by an author named Walter L. Stewart, who published a book about weapons in 1966. The name is said to have come from the way the blades were curved at their points.
